    The Manufacturing Engineer II will be part of a growing and talented team of engineers who will provide support and directly impacts the overall performance metrics for the entire manufacturing plant. The Manufacturing Engineer II establishes and directs manufacturing practices, processes, procedures, fixtures, tooling, and equipment for production with the ultimate goal of achieving higher quality and productivity.

    The successful Manufacturing Engineer II will also take into consideration environmental and financial objectives which requires the use of lean manufacturing principles to minimize inventory, maximize throughput, and optimize facility utilization.

    • Establish and maintain optimal utilization of manufacturing processes, equipment and systems.
    • Provide first level equipment and floor support to assigned product lines.
    • Develop tooling and fixtures in support of existing and/or new products.
    • Generate work instructions, process control procedures, operating procedures, and process maps.
    • Work with and train operators, as required, on equipment operation, standard work practices, and process control.
    • Work with operations, product engineers, and process engineers to enhance manufacturability of new and existing products.
    • Apply Lean and Six Sigma principles to eliminate the waste and non-value added activity in the manufacturing process.
    • Streamline the flow of material from vendor to customer in order to minimize inventory and to elevate throughput.
    • Reduce changeover times on the production floor using SMED techniques.
    • TPM and OEE implementation, environmental health and safety responsibilities.
    • Provide and/or implement continuous improvement ideas and direction for manufacturing and production.
    • Design plant or process flow layouts to improve productivity.
    • Design Kanban systems and implement throughout entire plant.
    • Establish Visual Factory controls at the work cell level on the production floor.
    • Design and/or procure assembly tools that incorporate safety and ergonomics to produce a quality assembly process.
    • Identify cost reduction opportunities. Provide the necessary technical assistance for the selection, justification, and purchase of new equipment and components, including the necessary follow up to ensure the obligation of the purchase order is met by the vendor.
    • Able to write requirements including Scope of Work & RFQ and evaluate custom design vendors for new assembly automation solutions.
    • Collect and analyze data to improve products and manufacturing processes, leading to higher standard of quality, cost reduction, and increased efficiency. (i.e. Provide time studies for routings in the JDE system to form a baseline of existing processes on the plant floor and assist in the creation/revision of Bills of Material).
    • Troubleshoot manufacturing, quality, and assembly issues using root cause analysis techniques.
    • Knowledge of Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis and conduct PFMEA meetings with cross-functional teams in Operations.
    • Perform capacity analysis for both CNC machines and final assembly lines.
    • Must be able to lead cross-functional teams with proven results.
    • Mentor engineering interns from local universities and colleges.
    • Lead Kaizen events.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Working Relationships:


    Work independently and productively with other members of the MFG. Engineering Team and maintain open and direct communication. While working in a team environment, you should feel comfortable contributing to the overall-manufacturing mission, with the ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently. You must also offer ideas for new systems that ensure expandability according to Symmons growth mission. Carry out implementation schedules, which promote smooth transition to modern manufacturing techniques.



    • BS in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
    • Must be proficient with MS Office, AutoCAD, SolidWorks and other manufacturing software and tools.
    • Must have experience with tool and fixture design and machinery assembly system design.
    • Experience with automation and with PLC programming languages such as Ladder Logic and LabVIEW is a plus.
    • Must have good English written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to analyze financial performance and justify capital investments.
