    Since the 1930’s Symmons has been a company committed to providing solutions. Headquartered in Braintree, Masschusetts, we are seeking a Senior Buyer who will optimize the use of company assets in the acquisition of assigned goods and services.


    The ideal candidate will develop sources of supply both domestically and internationally to support the uninterrupted flow of material to satisfy customer demand.


    • Analyze and act upon ERP (JDE)/Demand (R+) report commands on assigned strategic/key commodities
    • Gain knowledge about market conditions and trends; formulate short and long term strategies to ensure quality and continuity of supply while minimizing total cost
    • Source, select and evaluate new suppliers
    • Monitor supplier performance by tracking overall performance vs defined expectations (i.e. delivery, cost containment, cost reductions generated, etc.)
    • Negotiate terms and price; while developing a strategy to supply parts and cost reductions
    • Maintain favorable price variances (i.e. search for cost/inventory reductions and avoidances in line with department/company goals)
    • Act as a liaison between suppliers and internal department at Symmons
    • Be familiar with end use of assigned commodities leading to the possibility of alternative methods of production or specifications
    • Manage supplier scorecard (i.e. on-time delivery, quality, cost reductions, etc.)
    • Support New Product Development team with supplier selection, quotes, and lead times
    • Generate and analyze department inventory reports and assist Director in setting inventory turn policy
    • Work within the department and company goals to maximize inventory dollar investment without sacrificing service to the plant


    • A minimum of 5-8 years direct procurement experience in an MRP/ERP demand management manufacturing environment
    • Bachelor of Science degree or appropriate experience required
    • Proficient in Mircosoft Office Suites
    • Knowledge of market place for assigned commodities, current on modern purchasing and inventory management techniques and practices
    • Service oriented, goal driven, ability to manage multiple tasks
    • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
    • Willingness and ability to travel internationally as required
