Headquartered in Braintree, MA, Symmons is currently seeking a Machine Shop Manager to oversee daily operations of the machine shop by planning, coordinating and directing activities of machine shop personnel.

     

    The ideal candidate will work to ensure parts are fabricated to specifications and quality level required by our customers. Continuously improve equipment utilization, resources management, material flow, machine uptime, and general processes.

    Responsibilities

    • Manages the day to day operations of the machine shop with a focus on safety, quality, customer fill rate, and machine efficiency
    • Manage, direct and provide support for a team of CNC and Screw machine operators and Cell leads
    • Coordinate activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of machine shop employees
    • Provide a safe work environment by driving a safety culture with open communication and a proactive approach to identifying issues
    • Maximize competitive advantage through lean practices
    • Using lean tools to develop and implement labor, overhead, material usage and scrap cost reduction initiative
    • Suggest, develop and implement capital investment plan for Machine shop equipment
    • Evaluate and verify employee performance through yearly performance process
    • Build a strong and viable machine shop by instituting an extensive operators cross training program
    • Evaluate department needs and provide solutions/options for equipment, process improvement, and cost reductions
    • Build a strong working relationship with your internal customers as well maintenance, engineering, planning and quality
    • Provide extensive training for new employees
    • Drive continuous improvement activities such 5S, housekeeping, cost reduction and process improvements
    • Identify associate development and training needs and ensures that training is obtained
    • Collaborate with other department leaders
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    Working Relationships:

    Work closely with other departments and internal customers to ensure smooth flow of material throughout the plant.

     

     

     

     

     

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience  
    • Minimum of 5-8 years of experience supervising a machine shop
    • Strong knowledge of CNC and Conventional machinery 
    • Knowledge of machine tools and the use of precision measuring devices
    • Capable of reading, understanding and interpreting engineering drawing
    • Programming Capability a plus
    • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs
    • Must be able to bend, reach, stand and/or walk for up to 8 hours
