  • Overview

    Symmons Industries is seeking a Facilities and Maintenance Technician III who will provide facility maintenance and custodial service following Symmons standards and practices.  The ideal candidate will help maintain a professional appearance and safe working environment for all Symmons’ facilities.


    • Performs repairs and maintenance in plant or office facilities, or on machines and equipment
    • Work on assignments that are complex in nature where considerable judgment and initiative are required in resolving problems and making recommendations
    • Requires basic knowledge of all plant systems and equipment and the ability to provide technical support to all departments when required
    • Performs work in one or more of the maintenance trades: carpentry, plumbing, painting, machine and equipment repair, electrical, sheet metal fabrication, and welding
    • Conducts routine, periodic, or special inspections to determine repair and maintenance work necessary to prevent breakdowns of facilities, machinery, and equipment
    • Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, diagrams, and equipment specifications
    • Effectively works in a team setting, supporting team goals and objectives
    • Assist with janitorial work such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, stripping, sealing, waxing floors, vacuuming and shoveling snow
    • Ability to interface with vendors and other outside contractors
    • Provides training and support to teammates
    • Conducts various other tasks as instructed by Facility Manager

    Working Relationships:

    Work independently and productively with other members of the Facility, Maintenance, and Continuous Improvement Team and maintain open and direct communication. Work closely with departmental managers to provide excellent support on the shop floor.



    • High school or vocational school diploma 
    • Minimum of 7-10 years related trades training or equivalent work experience in maintenance and equipment repair is required
    • Be able to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and written
    • Must be able to utilize a wide variety of hand and portable power tools
    • Good organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously
    • Must have understanding of basic plumbing work to repair or install supply lines
    • Ability to read and understand fabrication drawings
    • Must be able to use typical machine shop equipment to fabricate parts
    • Extensive knowledge to use welding equipment is required
    • Mechanical dexterity and ability to work with tools
    • Must have basic knowledge of working with construction materials
    • Work independently and productively with other personnel
    • Ability to work evening and or weekend hours when necessary
    • Basic proficiency with PCs and basic use of a Windows environment is required

    Physical Requirements:

    • Frequent lifting, carrying and/or moving items up to 35 lbs
    • Ability to climb, bend, stoop, crawl, crouch, kneel, stand, twist, and lean while carrying parts and or tools
    • Possess manual dexterity to put parts or pieces together utilizing both hands
    • Must be able to walk long distances 8 hours per day on concrete asphalt and other hard surfaces
